The Word of the week – January 8, 2013
Let’s start the new year off with something positive…the word of the week for is Humour… After the holiday season and all of the stress that time of the year can bring…. it is time to consider an injection humour and laughter into your life. When is the last time that you laughed so hard that you could not catch your breath? We all don’t find the same things funny and laughter is the first thing to go when there is stress. Stop….. and think about your world for a minute how much time in one day do you give over to looking for things that amuse you. Is there any one thing that can even make you crack a smile? If there isn’t …..what are you doing about it?
Humour and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Consider what you can do to bring humour back into your life. What are listening to with regularity…and think about the effect it is having on you.
Take a few minutes each morning to set up your intentions for the day…
Remember…….. thoughts become things….and what you desire for yourself can and will come to you. That goes both ways though – both positive and negative.
For those of you who are stuck as to where to begin….. consider starting each day with –prayers to your higher power…… gratitude first…addressing the positives can be an issue in different periods of your life. We have all experienced difficulty and disappointment and flat out devastation from one extreme to another. Life’s journey can be rough and we have all had those times when you could not even find it within ourselves to smile….. let alone laugh. Consider stopping and taking a moment to start the list of positives . I encourage all of you to write it down and update the list with regularity so when you forget you can refer back to what brings you joy and laughter….that one act of reviewing the list will bring in the positive energy you need to start pushing back the negativity….remember negativity cannot exist in positivity.
Don’t forget you can also be grateful for the negatives…… because they set the platform for growth……. and we become emotionally stronger as a result.
We have all had those times in our lives …..when we were going through them there was absolutely nothing funny about it…..but in hindsight after time has gone by and sometimes it can be years….we are able to find humour in that life event. We can..in time……learn to laugh and find humour in some of the biggest perceived adversities in our lives. That is when you are ready to let it go and heal.
Consider what are your first thoughts of the day are– do you open your eyes and immediately start looking for all the negatives in your life…the bad feelings from the day before – the pain that you feel on your body……… is that what you have learned to identify your life by…. or do you open your eyes…… and look for the positives that exist within you…… and the positives that are present around you in your world. Then….do you take the time to be grateful. That one simple act will change things.
Consider taking the time to Learn how to laugh at yourself and not take yourself so seriously all the time. Try adopting a lighter perspective towards the day to day events around you that cause you stress.
Your sense of humour….. is one of the most powerful tools you have….. to make certain that your daily mood and emotional state support your health and well being.
